B CARING: 8 WAYS TO SUPPORT HIGHLAND PARK VICTIMS

At Plan B, our hearts break for those affected by the July 4 mass shooting in Highland Park during the Chicago suburb’s Independence Day parade, killing seven people and wounding at least 26 more. 

To help raise awareness and show your support for the victims, their families, and the greater Highland Park community, we’ve compiled this list of verified GoFundMe fundraisers. 

Highland Park Victims GoFundMe

This fundraiser, affiliated with VictimsFirst, was created to support funeral costs, medical bills, and mental health support for all those affected by the shooting. 

Irina and Kevin McCarthy 

Aiden McCarthy is the 2-year-old-son of Irina and Kevin McCarthy, ages 35 and 37, who were both killed in the Highland Park shooting. All funds will go towards expenses related to raising, caring for, and supporting Aiden. 

Nicolos Toledo-Zaragoza

Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza, 78, a father of eight who was killed in the shooting. His granddaughter Xochil Toledo organized this fundraiser in his name. All proceeds will go towards any medical and funeral expenses. 

Jacki Sundheim

Jacki Sundheim, 64, a beloved synagogue worker who was shot and killed at the parade shooting. This fundraiser will help the family of Jacki with funeral and living expenses.

Eduardo Uvaldo and Family 

Eduardo Evaldo, 69, of Waukegan, was the seventh victim to die from injuries sustained in the shooting. Nivia Guzman created this fundraiser for her grandparents, Eduardo and Maria, and her younger brother, who all suffered injuries from the shooting.  

Family Assistance for the Kolpacks and Joyces 

Samantha Whitehead organized this fundraiser on behalf of Chicago Public Schools teacher Zoe Kolpack and her family. Kolpack was shot in her thigh bone and her husband, Stephen, and her dad, Mike Joyce were also shot in the leg. Stephen’s brother, Nicolos, was shot in his kneecap. Proceeds will help with the family’s medical expenses. 

Alan Castillo

Melissa Martinez is raising money on behalf of her brother-in-law Alan Castillo. Castillo suffered a gunshot wound in the back and is currently awaiting surgery. Proceeds will go towards his medical and postoperative care expenses. 

Help with Medical and Therapy Cost 

This fundraiser is for Lilli Carrasco whose face was grazed by a bullet during the shooting. All funds will go towards medical, therapy, and other expenses to support her and her family during this time.
