Trip Out www.syfy.com For the premier of the new animated show, Tripping The Rift, the Sci-Fi Channel asked Plan B to develop creative promotional ideas that were, and we quote, ‘way out there’. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. We came back with three different creative concepts, each featuring the kind of subversive twists and off-color humor that three out of four foul-mouth, three-eyed purple aliens prefer. Chode V. Barney. Celebrity Death Match met Saturday morning kids’ shows in this concept, which featured a traveling wrestling ring in which Captain Chode of the Jupiter 42 pounded the tar out of the dinosaur everyone loves to hate. Smut-Fi. Plan B staged a full-blown mock protest in front of the Sci-Fi Channel’s New York headquarters, demonstrating against the filthy, degrading humor and debauchery of Tripping The Rift. We hired actors to play protesters, secured the proper permits for a legal demonstration, and alerted the media. Then we sat back and watched the buzz. Space Waste. Picture yourself walking down the street, minding your own business, when you suddenly trip over a two-foot pile of noxious purple space waste. As the waste — actually ice—melts, it reveals messages dropped to Earth from the crew of the Jupiter 42. Additional components included ‘Wanted’ posters for the droppers of the dung and local media coverage.
